Our History

Since 1994, Texarkana Gastroenterology Consultants, PA has provided exceptional care and sensitivity in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, and colon. Dr. Stanley Knowles, one of the founding partners, was joined in 1999 by Dr. John Cozart, in 2002 by Dr. Laura Balmain, and in 2011 by Dr. James Boehmke, Dr. Brian J. So joined the practice in July 2014, and Dr. Stephen Steele joined the group in July 2017. Our group, currently consisting of five physicians and two mid-level providers, has been dedicated to the gastroenterology care needs of the Four States area since the beginning, and continues that tradition today.

In July 2006 Texarkana Gastroenterology Consultants, PA, moved from a small office into its new 15,000 square foot facility, which includes clinic space, a new pathology lab and a licensed 7,500 square foot state-of-the art endoscopy center.

The Endoscopy Center of Texarkana is licensed by the state of Texas, certified as a Medicare provider, and performs thousands of procedures each year. The Center offers a spacious reception area for patients and family and our three state of the art procedure rooms allow your doctor to perform procedures in the most comfortable and efficient manner.
